Upcoming Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvement Projects
The City of Monona is looking to reconstruct South Winnequah Rd. from Schluter Rd. south to Bridge Rd. The asphalt is failing and the overall design is unsafe for all users and does not adhere to engineering MUTCD standards for a collector street and/or a pedestrian and biking corridor. A Public Information Meeting was held in July to gather feedback from residents about a proposed scope of design for that section of roadway. The presentation is shared below
There is another public information meeting planned for September 22nd at 6:30 PM in the Community Center.
Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements Plan
The City of Monona completed its first ever comprehensive pedestrian and bicycle improvements plan in 2019 a year after forming a steering committee to review an engineering study performed by Strand Associates Inc. The project stemmed from prior reports and studies performed as part of two school zone studies from 2008 and 2012, a strategic planning gap analysis survey from 2013, the City's comprehensive plan adopted in 2016, and the UniverCity (UCY) Alliance Active Transportation projects completed in the 2016-2017 academic year in cooperation with the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The following document is a list of studies, reports, or other helpful resources that were used to guide the content of the City’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements Plan. Some of these are referenced and linked directly in the plan document itself.
