Monona Public Library Celebrates its 50th Anniversary with a Lively Fundraiser
Dinner Followed by Dancing at Fireman's Park Shelter, Monona, WI

Help Monona Public Library celebrate its 50th Anniversary at this fun-filled fundraiser, Saturday, September 20, from 4:30–8 pm at Fireman's Park Shelter in Winnequah Park -- complete with foot-stompin' fiddle music, amazin' grazin', activities for the young'uns and a flurry of biddin’ at on-line silent and live auctions. Learn traditional American dances or sit back and enjoy the music and camaraderie. Shake out your gingham apron or dust off your straw hat and get ready to swing your partner. Families and beginners welcome. No partner, experience, or costume necessary.

Dot Kent, known as the best caller in southern Wisconsin, will teach us traditional American dances, including old-time squares, Midwestern big circle dances and others. She will be accompanied by live fiddle, guitar and hammer dulcimer music.

Don't fret the menu! Fat Jack's will provide options for carnivores, herbivores and omnivores alike. Choose from sliced pork, roast chicken, grilled vegetables, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw and pasta salad, plus dessert (sliver or cake & frozen yogurt)! Beer, root beer, pie from some of Monona's best bakers will be available for purchase.

The evening will include a silent auction featuring a variety of donations from generous local businesses and individuals; see to start bidding now! The event will also feature a trifecta of incredible live auction items. Come ready to bid on a “Peerless Picnic”--tour the back roads of Southern Wisconsin to a surprise destination in a 1916 vintage automobile; day trip includes gourmet picnic and wine and cheese stops along the way (2 adults). For the kiddies, bid on an “Old Fashioned Ice Cream Outing”--tool around the streets of Monona in a vintage automobile, destination: Monona Bait & Ice Cream Shop (5 passengers; at least one must be an adult). Also up for live auction is a 4 day / 3-night condo stay in picturesque Fish Creek in Door County.

New! Tickets are $20 per person in advance; $25 day of. Children 4 and under are free. Ticket includes dinner, dessert, lively entertainment and a free Friends of Monona Public Library membership!
Purchase tickets (cash or check preferred) in advance by calling 608-222-6127 or by coming to Monona Public Library, 1000 Nichols Road, Monona.

From its humble beginnings in 1964 when it was located in a small room of the Monona Community Center, the Monona Library has grown and flourished. Monona Public Library was voted Wisconsin Library of the Year in 2010, and is proud to serve the community of Monona, as well as all of Dane County and the South Central Library System. The Library offers numerous unique programs and services for people of all ages, with book collections, e-books, movies, music cds, computer and free WI-FI services. “It’s an exciting time to be at the Monona Library,” says director Erick Plumb. “We’re thrilled to celebrate the success of our first half-century serving area residents; we’re even more excited to look forward to what the next decades will bring. As the area continues to grow and thrive, we’ll be here to serve you.”

We’ll do-si-do rain or shine. Monona Fireman’s Park Shelter is located near the intersection of Winnequah Road and Progressive Lane (northernmost corner of Winnequah Park). See you at the Shindig!
