Monona Farmers' Market
Sunday, June 24, 2018
Summer is in full swing at the Monona Farmers Market!
You’ll find everything you need for a delicious summer salad. There is an abundant assortment of fresh greens, radishes, green onions, zucchini, kohlrabi, snap peas, cucumbers, tomatoes, and new potatoes. Pick up a loaf of fresh bread or crisp crackers with dips or cheese for great salad compliments.
Don’t forget the strawberries! For a yummy, easy dessert or appetizer try chocolate covered strawberries.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
16 oz. milk, semi sweet or dark chocolate chips
2 Tablespoons shortening
1 lb strawberries with leaves
Rinse and thoroughly dry strawberries with paper towels.
In a double boiler, melt the chocolate and shortening, stirring occasionally until smooth. Hold strawberries by the leaves or use toothpicks to dip strawberries into the chocolate mixture. Place strawberries on waxed paper to cool or, if using toothpicks, turn them upside down and insert toothpicks into a piece of Styrofoam.
