Monona Farmers' Market

Sunday, October 21, 2018

Have coffee with Community Relations Officer Jim Rieter, Mayor Mary O’Connor and Dane County Board member Tanya Buckingham at this week's market!

Coffee with a Cop is a program for developing community relationships between police officers and the people they serve.  On Sunday, October 21 Monona Officer Jim Rieter will host Coffee with a Cop at the Monona Farmers Market.  Joining him will be Mayor Mary O’Connor and Dane County Board member Tanya Buckingham. It is a great opportunity to discuss issues, learn more about each other and enjoy a steaming hot cup of coffee.

Adding music to the market’s community atmosphere is Josh Cohen, composer and bassist from Toronto, Canada.  He plays jazz, funk, pop, and classical.  Cohen strives to connect his musical inspiration with the inspiration one can receive from exploring nature.

Winter squash comes in many shapes, colors and varieties and the selection is great at the Monona Farmers Market.  Loaded with antioxidants and vitamins they can be prepared many ways, sweet or savory.

Winter squash are often baked, roasted or steamed and simply flavored with salt and butter. They also go well with other seasonings, such as cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and allspice. Some are sweetened by adding brown sugar, maple syrup, and honey. Winter squash can be added to soups, stews, curries, casseroles, and other dishes. They can be mixed with other vegetables or used to replace sweet potatoes in most recipes. Winter squash are also great in pies, muffins, cakes, puddings, and other desserts.  The options for enjoying this delicious fall treat are endless.

Don’t miss the last market of the season on October 28.  Trick or treat with the vendors.  Aldo Leopold Nature Center (ALNC) will have a table with their Skins, Skulls and Scat activity.  You can also find out about upcoming events at ALNC

EBT is accepted.  The Double Dollars Program is available.

The market, located at Ahuska Park, 400 East Broadway, is open every Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm through October 28th
