Children! Save Yourselves!" One Family's Story of the Holocaust
Ron Berger, professor emeritus of sociology at UW-Whitewater will tell the compelling true story of his father's and uncle's survival of the Holocaust in Nazi-occupied Poland. Berger's father endured several concentration camps, including the infamous camp at Auschwitz, as well as a horrific winter death march. His uncle survived by passing as a Catholic among anti-Semitic Poles, including a group of anti-Nazi Polish partisans, eventually becoming and office in the Soviet Army. Berger will highlight the personal resources and strategic risk-taking that contributed to his relatives' survival.
