The City of Monona has openings on the city committees below. Serving on a city committee is a great way for new residents to get involved in their hometown, for retired residents to volunteer some of their free time, or for anyone who is interested in local government to participate. Interested residents should complete the citizen committee application or call (608) 222-2525 to request a paper application.
Public Works Committee
The Public Works Committee, under the direction of the City Council, oversees the construction and maintenance of streets, alleys, sidewalks, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water system, and other public works projects. The committee meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm. Applicants with a background in engineering, construction, or heavy equipment operation or management are preferred.
License Review Committee
The License Review Committee reviews and makes recommendations to the City Council for all applications relating to fermented malt beverages, intoxicating liquor, and massage establishments, as well as ordinance amendments pertaining to these and other licenses. Operators (Bartenders) are reviewed by the committee if necessary. The committee works closely with the Police Department to ensure statutes and ordinances are followed. The committee meets as needed on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 4 pm. Applicants with small business experience are preferred.
Board of Review
The Board of Review is a quasi-judicial body made up of citizens which receives the annual assessment roll from the Assessor, then meets in an annual hearing (usually in early June) to hear objections from property owners regarding their assessments.
