Afterschool 2023-24 LOTTERY
Registration for the 2023-2024 Afterschool Year is coming up fast! We plan to revert to a WAITLIST LOTTERY only registration. The demand for our program is greater than the space we have available- we struggle each year with our registration system getting overwhelmed. You are signing up for our lottery, which is not guaranteeing a spot. You must be selected to enroll. An application for each child in the household is required.
The lottery application will open for applicants on Feb 15 at 8 am and will close on Feb 19 at 11:59 pm. A random electronic selection process shall be used to determine which students will be admitted. The parent/guardian of each student who has received a winning lottery number will receive a notice via email within 24 hours of the lottery completion.
Active recreation program that encourages health and wellness through physical activity, environmental literacy, and play. Children will also develop social skills, a positive self-image and a sense of community. The children go outside daily - please ensure each child dresses for the weather. A snack is provided for each child.

Late Pick-up Policy:
Our late pick-up policy is as follows: If a child is picked up after 5:30 PM; a fee of $1.00 per minute is assessed for the first 10 minutes, or any portion thereof; and an additional $15.00 per minute thereafter will accrue and be charged automatically to your weekly bill. Please note: After 3 late pick-ups; the child may be subject to suspension. If late pick-ups continue we may proceed with dis-enrollment from the program. Although we understand emergencies arise; we expect parents to respect the hours of operation and the staff members' time. It is important to contact our site phone (608-279-9105) immediately if you know you will be late.
Behavior Management Policy:
At afterschool club, we strive to provide a safe environment, both physically and emotionally, for everyone in the program. Monona Parks & Recreation emphasizes respect within all aspects of our programs. We will be proactive in teaching, modeling, and reinforcing respect with challenging behaviors.
If you choose to send your child here, you are putting your trust in our protocols and practices for responding to challenging situations in an effort to help each child grow individually as well as keep the program a positive experience for the rest of the participants. Most of the time a child just needs a reminder or a gentle redirection. Should the child persist with behavior that is unsafe, dishonest, uncooperative, or disruptive, he or she may be removed from the group and given the opportunity to talk things over with the Coordinator.
We do our best to listen to the child's needs and feelings when discipline issues arise. We do not, however, have the resources to work with children one-on-one for extended periods of time (30+mins). Depending on the situation, the following steps will be taken:
1. A plan with specific strategies will be developed with the child and staff, and parents will be notified.
2. If the behavior is serious or becomes a consistent issue, the Coordinator will suspend the child and hold a parent conference. The child may be suspended from the program for an amount of time to be determined by the Coordinator.
3. Repeated instances of problem behavior will be grounds for expulsion from the program. There are no refunds available for children who are either suspended or expelled from our programs.
4. In some cases, some steps may get skipped depending on the scenario and behavioral issues at play.
IMPORTANT: Certain behaviors are never tolerated and require immediate action such as violent language or acts, grossly inappropriate language or acts, and any behavior that we believe may endanger the child, other children, or staff members, either physically or emotionally. Pick-up of your child is required if our behavior intervention exceeds 30+ minutes. If your child has been suspended or expelled from any of our Monona Parks & Recreation programs they must start the new program with a behavior review before acceptance is guaranteed. A Behavior Intervention Plan with a display of continued success is required to remain in the program.
Bullying and Teasing – There may be times when the staff are unaware that this type of behavior is going on. If your child feels bullied and you believe that our staff either do not know about it or are not addressing it appropriately, please call the Coordinator.
Inclement Weather Policy:
If Monona Grove School District cancels school for the day or releases school early after school club will be canceled.
Tuition Agreement:
I understand that once registered with Monona Parks & Recreation, tuition will automatically be charged to my credit card on file. Charges will continue automatically each month until a written cancellation notice is provided to Monona Parks & Recreation*. I am responsible for payment whether or not my child attends the program until I notify this facility in writing to drop my student from the program(s). *Please refer to the withdrawal policy for exact details.
There will be no fee reduction or reimbursement for absences due to illness, family emergencies, vacation, COVID quarantine*, unexpected visits from relatives, or for any other reason. Please note, the no refund policy also includes emergency weather closures.
*Non-center initiated quarantine
Tuition Agreement in relation to COVID:
If we need to cancel afterschool due to an increase of COVID cases, we will offer pro-rated refunds essentially paying for the days your child(ren) are there and giving a refund for the days cancelled. You can donate your tuition to support our departments youth scholarship fund if that is something that you want to do. If your child needs to miss due to having COVID or being in contact with someone who has tested positive, this will be treated as any other absence and no refund is given for that.
Once enrolled, if a family is facing financial hardship due to COVID quarantine requests or from their income, they may ask Monona Parks & Recreation to defer their payments to a later date that is agreed upon between both parties. Failure to pay any deferred payments will result in removal from the program and/or additional consequences put forth by the city of Monona.
Withdrawal from Program Policy:
The Monona Parks & Recreation office requires a 15-day notice of cancellation in writing (e-mail, typed, or handwritten) stating their last day of attendance. The cancellation notice is required to stop automated payments. If the cancellation falls on or after the 15th of the month, you will be charged for the entire portion of that month and the remainder of the future payments will be canceled after the fact. If you are canceling before the program has started, you will not be refunded the registration fee/deposit ($25), but your auto-payment plan will be canceled.
Monona Parks & Recreation reserves the right to terminate the contract of a family who does not comply with the rules and regulations set forth by the family handbook, addendums, or for any other reasons that may negatively impact Monona Parks & Recreation or its employees. If Monona Parks & Recreation terminate a family’s contract, that family will forfeit their deposit and future payments will be nullified.
