Payroll Information

Pay Periods and Payroll Dates

  • The City of Monona has two pay periods per month (semi-monthly payroll, 24 pay periods per year). Pay period 1 includes days 1-15; pay period 2 includes days 6-31.
  • Payroll checks are issued at the end of each pay period, on the 15th and 30th of each month. If those dates fall on a weekend or holiday, checks are issued on the previous workday.
  • Those employees who are salaried are paid at the end of the pay period for hours worked in that pay period. Those employees who are paid hourly are paid at the end of the pay period for hours worked in the previous pay period. Employees who are paid a salary but also earn overtime, holiday pay and shift differentials (like police officers, dispatchers, and firefighters) are paid with a combination; they receive their salary for the current pay period plus overtime pay, holiday pay, and shift differentials for hours worked in the previous pay period.

Direct Deposit

Direct deposit of your paycheck is available.  Please note that when enrolling in direct deposit, your first paycheck will be a pre-notification to your direct deposit account -- i.e., we'll send a blank direct deposit check to ensure that it is routed to the correct account. You'll receive a paper check when we do your pre-notification. Assuming your pre-notification is successful, your subsequent checks will be direct deposited.

Changing your direct deposit

To change your direct deposit bank, account number, or deposit amounts, print out and submit a new direct deposit form and return to Leah Kimmell.  For cyber security reasons, do not submit direct deposit enrollment or changes via email.

miPay Online

The City utilizes a secure online payroll server called miPay Online. Employees who choose to have their paychecks direct deposited will not receive paper paystubs but can view all their paystubs on the miPay Online server. Your W-2s can also be stored and viewed on miPay Online (see below). To enroll in miPay Online, include your email address on the direct deposit enrollment form. You'll receive a welcome email from miPay Online with instructions on how to set up your online account.

Online W-2s

Once your account is set up, click under your name in the upper right of the screen and select My Profile.  On your profile, scroll down the page and be sure that the Consent to Online W-2 box is checked.  If you don't check the box, you will only receive a paper W-2.
