New Library Card Account During COVID-19 You may obtain a library card number to use to place items on hold for curbside pickup and access digital library resources. To register, please fill out the online form by clicking here. It may take 3-5 business days for staff to process your new card and email you or call you with your login information.
Filling out the form will give you access to your own library account number. However, you will not receive a physical library card until you are able to come in to the physical library building and talk with a library staff member.
You will be asked to upload an image of a photo ID of yourself, as well as proof of address (ex. bank statement, utility bill, etc.) if your current address is not on your photo ID.
Obtaining a Library Card
You may obtain a card at the Monona Public Library. When applying for a library card, Monona Public Library asks for two things:
Proof of current residence
A driver's license with your current address is the easiest way to apply. If you do not have that, we will accept a photo ID plus one of the following:
A checkbook with your name and current address printed on it
A current lease with your name and address on it
A piece of current mail ONLY if the envelope has your name, current address AND a postmark dated within the last 30 days.
If your identification has a P.O. Box or business address listed, you still must show proof of your current home address (residence).
Children Library Cards
Cards may be issued to children at any age. Applicants under 14 years of age are required to obtain their parent's or guardian's signature on the card application and have parent or guardian present. Parents or guardians applying for cards for their children must have each child present to be issued cards. Children residing in two households will be issued a card only by the community or agency of primary residence, as stated by the parent or guardian.
The first card issued by Monona Public Library is free of charge. Replacement cards are issued for a $1 fee.

South Central Library System Members
If you are a resident of a county in the South Central Library System (including Adams, Columbia, Dane, Green, Portage, Sauk, and Wood counties) and do not have a library card from your local library, you can apply for a card at the Monona Public Library. Follow the instructions for card applications above.
If you are a resident of a South Central Library System (SCLS) county, and have a card from your local library and the card has a barcode on it, you can use that card at the Monona Public Library. No separate card is needed.
If your SCLS card doesn't have a barcode on it, then one needs to be attached before the card can be used at the Monona Public Library. We will need to see your library card and identification with your current address on it.
Non-Residents or Members
If you are not a resident of a SCLS county but are a resident of the state of Wisconsin you may be able to borrow materials from the Monona Public Library. To acquire a computer number to borrow materials you must present:
A valid library card from your local library.
Identification with your current address on it.
Upon presentation of the above, the Monona Public Library will enter you into our computer system and attach a barcode number to your card. You will then be able to borrow materials from us.
Exception: If you live in Milwaukee County you will not be able to borrow materials from us. Milwaukee County has not signed an agreement with South Central Library System for exchange of library services.
