Yoga with Maureen
Location: Monona Community Center - Lounge Room
Cost: $50 for full session
Walk-in: $9 per session
Classes are designed for those who have had no previous exposure to yoga, but are eager to learn. The beginner student needs slow-paced direction and a great level of detail so they can become familiar with basic yoga poses and use of the breath.
Come as you are! All Level classes are suitable for beginners, masters and everyone in between. These classes offer modifications so that you can customize class to fit your specific needs and level of expertise.
Before teacher training in Madison, Maureen taught and lived in Thailand for four years where she studied Thai massage and Tai Chi, as well as participated in workshops with Desiree Rambaugh in Anusara Yoga and Dylan Bernstein in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.
Today she is inspired by the teachings of Scott Anderson, Sean Corne, and Michael Stone. Off the mat, she loves to teach Stand-Up Paddle Board Yoga, travel and explore the world, along with teaching English as a Second Language to children and volunteering her time to those in need of help to create a violence- and stress-free world.
Physically yoga has helped tremendously with my flexibility and strength. When I first started yoga I was very inflexible and weak. The physical effect of doing yoga has increased my flexibility, range of motion in joints. Yoga practice has also increased my strength and alignment by using my own weight to resist itself in balance poses and postures.
Mentally, yoga practice has resulted in a more positive attitude in handling whatever life throws at me. I have discovered that regular practice of yoga also helps me to deal with stress and has enabled me to concentrate and focus on solutions to problems.
I have attended yoga classes in various studio settings, Maureen has always been my favorite instructor and is among the best. I have practiced with Maureen for 3 years now and we are fortunate to have her yoga instruction and practice in our community. She fosters our growth physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
It’s never too late to start Yoga! I look forward to the weekly sessions and can't imagine yoga not being part of my life." Rebecca Holmquist
