Aqua Zumba Class

Aqua Zumba is a fun and effective way for people of all skill levels to get - and stay - in shape! Various low-impact, high-energy cardio and strength exercises are incorporated to create an overall body workout.
Ages: 18 and older.

MISS ARIMiss Ari has been a dancer her whole life! She attended the University of Iowa, and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Dance.She and her husband moved to Madison in 1999 and started their family in 2004 with their first child, Anya, followed by Adam in 2007.
Ari has taught at many different studios in town. Currently she teaches at Ultimate Leap Dance Center in DeForest and runs the dance program, Dance for Life at Happy Bambino. She danced with Jazzworks Dance Company from 2002 to 2010. When she decided to retire from the stage, Ari felt like she still needed to dance! Zumba filled that void for her!
In 2009, Ari was certified as a Zumba instructor. In 2010 she added her Aqua Zumba certification and in 2011 her Zumba Gold certification. Ari currently teaches Aqua Zumba at the Northeast YMCA, and Zumba at Happy Bambino.
- Aqua shoes help lessen the impact; you can purchase these shoes at Rogan's Shoes (or similar chain store) or online. The Ryka brand is preferred by many.
- Be respectful of others in class. Be aware of who is in front, back and beside you. Greet your neighbors, have fun meeting new people and making new friends. Socializing can be done after or before class.
- Pool tools (e.g, noodles, aqua bells, kick boards, elastic bands) should be returned to the lifeguards by 1 p.m.
- Drink water before, during and after class. Place your water bottles (no glass, please) on the pool deck during class and drink whenever you need to.
- Select your strength equipment before class starts, so that the transition to the strength portion is seamless. The strength equipment used during class is placed on the side of the small pool (closest to the Lifeguard office.)
- The water should ideally be at breast bone height. Shorter people in the shallow end; taller people in the deeper end. It is OK to move around during class; spots are not reserved. There is more impact on your joints in shallow water, so be mindful of this when selecting your spot in class.
- Wear a hat and sunglasses.
- Wear sunscreen (SPF 30 or greater).
Be mindful of your limitations. The instructor will try to show modifications, however the general rule is if it hurts don't do it. We all have limitations of one sort or another, so listen to your body and heed its signals.
