ATTN: ALL - Public Announcement
FROM: Brian Chaney Austin, Chief of Police
August 2, 2021
The Monona Police Department is pleased to announce the selection of two new police officers as authorized by the Police and Fire Commission:
Julie Ribeiro of Middleton, WI has work experience with the US Transportation Security Administration and as a soldier in the US Army Reserves. In addition, Ribeiro works as a self-defense instructor in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. She is also proficient in Brazilian Portuguese.
Emma Gunsolus of Stoughton, WI has work experience as a manager and personal trainer for an area fitness franchise. In addition, Gunsolus has served as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Stoughton Fire Department for the past three years.
I am confident that both Julie and Emma will make exceptional contributions to our Monona PD team as we work in partnership to maintain and create a safer community for all. Both candidates have demonstrated a high level of compassion, respect and an appreciation for diversity which are excellent qualities in a police officer.
Thank you to the community members and city staff who contributed a good deal of time in our latest recruitment and selection process. The new officers were hired to fill two (2) current vacancy positions within the police department. The officers will require the 720 hour Wisconsin Basic Law Enforcement Academy which will take place at Madison College later in the month. This will be the first time in which the City of Monona has provided paid sponsorship for new officers.
The two new members will be sworn in at Monona City Hall on August, 12th at 9am.
