Scholarly Scoop - Exploring Immigrant Encounters with the US Legal System

Despite a growing immigrant population and along with it, a demand for professionals able to address their needs, there is a dearth of materials available that are appropriate for undergraduate Spanish learners interested in developing the requisite linguistic skills and cultural competence to aid immigrants in US legal contexts. This presentation will explain the challenges of this issue as well as share my spring sabbatical project that is devoted to the research and design of such materials via interviews of professionals working with Spanish-speaking clientele as well as interviews of immigrants.
